I am asked by a lot of beginning banjo students which book to purchase.
I recommend Alred’s Teach Yourself to play Banjo.. But choose me as your banjo teacher.
It’s very easy to comprehend and I like the way the book is laid out.
It talks about bluegrass, claw hammer, and frailing in a way that is easy for the beginning student to understand
Taking banjo lessons is fun. and for some people, it’s actually easier than starting guitar lessons. The chords are often one or two finger, and its tuned in open G tuning.
It’s important to be taught music theory in your banjo lessons, too. Don’t fall into the trap of just playing tabs. You should learn how to improvise on the banjo.
Find a music teacher who is patient and can help you play the banjo with confidence. Your lessons should be fun. Play with other guitar and mandolin players is fun, too and it’s not that hard. Once you understand proper technique, you will be jamming in no time.
I offer private 5 string banjo lessons in two locations: Parkside Church in Camas and Heritage Church in Vancouver, Ws. I have passed background checks for WA state. All ages are encouraged to apply.
Don’t delay.. Start your 5 string banjo lessons soon and buy this book.
